Robotic submerged arc welding (SAW). Chapter 2

Using robots for this type of application is not only convenient, but also necessary. Saddle welds constantly change the trajectory and orientation of the welding torch, which makes it impossible to solve such problems with a standard 3-axis manipulator and welding columns.
As part of this project, we designed and built a universal stand on which research on welding such gaps is carried out.

To train the robot, we have developed a special program that allows you to determine the path of the passes and the gap parameters in a few minutes. Based on this data, the system produces optimal welding parameters, which can be adjusted if desired. Then the robot performs welding in automatic mode.
To test the technology, test assemblies were used consisting of pipes of different thicknesses mated along a profile line with a variable angle of preparation for welding.

ASG Robotics is a pioneer in these kind of welds, we have developed a unique technology, able to weld these variable profile gaps, the process welds the metal in such way so the metal reaches the desired level  uniformly at the last layer.
The advantages of welding these joints with this technology are evident, more joint strength, higher quality and lower costs at a higher productivity rate.
